Megan Herbert Named Southland Women?s Basketball Player of the Week
FRISCO, Texas - Central Arkansas junior forward Megan Herbert has been named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is the third time this season Herbert has earned this distinction.
Herbert helped Central Arkansas to a 2-0 conference record last week with wins against Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese State. Against the Lady Lions, Hebert narrowly missed recording a double-double, finishing one rebound shy in a 26-point, nine-rebound effort. Herbert, a native of Rogers, Ark. (Shiloh Christian), topped the 1,500-point mark for her career after she scored a season-high 32 points against McNeese State. In the 71-70 double-overtime win against the Cowgirls, Herbert notched her 56th career double-double as she also pulled down 15 rebounds. Herbert played all 50 minutes of the contest and went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line, including the decisive two with 6.8 seconds left in the second overtime to seal the win. The Sugar Bears are now 16-4 overall and are tied for the conference lead with a 6-1 mark.
Honorable mention this week goes to Texas State junior guard Diamond Ford, Sam Houston State junior forward Britni Martin and McNeese State junior guard Caitlyn Baggett. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland men's basketball sports information directors.
Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player.
