Islanders Sweep Southland Baseball Players of the Week Awards

FRISCO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi swept the Southland Conference weekly baseball awards with the selection of outfielder Jordan Lee as the hitter of the week and right-hander Daniel Minor as the pitcher of the week, the league office announced Monday.

Lee led the Islanders to a series win over Lamar, hitting .538 (7 for 13) in three games on the road. The freshman from Houston, Texas (Cypress Creek H.S.), had two hits in a 5-2 win on Friday night, one on Saturday in a 9-3 victory and four in a loss in the finale. Lee had at least one RBI in each of the three games and got on base exactly half the time in the three-game series. He hit two doubles and one triple while totaling four RBI for the Islanders. Lee responded to being moved to the top of the lineup, after getting one hit in the leadoff position on Saturday, he went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI while also stealing a base on Sunday. Lee also scored the winning run on Friday.

Minor pitched his fourth complete game of the season and struck out 10 Lamar batters in the series opener on Friday. It was also the fourth time this season the junior from Dripping Spring, Texas (Dripping Springs H.S.) struck out at least 10 batters in a game. Moving to the top of the rotation, Minor sat down 10 Lamar batters on strikes while walking one and giving up two runs against the Cardinals. He scattered 10 hits and walked on one batter to improve to 9-2 on the season. His season ERA is now 1.94 heading into the final weekend of the season. This is Minor's fourth pitcher of the week award of the season.

Honorable mention for hitter of the week goes to Nicholls State senior outfielder Jeremy Hill, Central Arkansas senior third baseman/designated hitter Blake Roberts, McNeese State senior right fielder Seth Granger and Sam Houston State freshman first baseman Ryan O'Hearn. Honorable mention for pitcher of the week goes to McNeese State sophomore right-hander Tyler McDonald, Sam Houston State senior right-hander Michael Oros and Central Arkansas junior right-hander Caleb McClanahan.

To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland baseball sports information contacts. Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
