It’s homecoming at Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday when the Lions play host to Lamar. Southeastern is 5-2 overall and one of just two undefeated teams in the Southland Conference at 2-0. The Cardinals visit in search of their conference win. They are 3-4 overall and 0-2 in league play with heart-breaking losses to 2012 co-champions Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas. The Lions, who have beaten Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State, are trying to extend their win streak to five games heading into next weekend’s showdown at McNeese State. First things first though for the Lions, who are trying to make it two straight wins against Lamar after last year’s 31-21 victory in Beaumont. Southeastern is led by the running and passing of quarterback Bryan Bennett, who averages 210 yards passing and 62.6 yards rushing. He has completed 64.1 percent of his passes (98 of 153) for 1,475 yards and seven touchdowns, while totaling 438 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 80 carries. Kade Harrington leads the Cardinals on the ground with 474 yards and three touchdowns on 92 carries. Reggie Begelton has 39 receptions for 399 yards and six scores. Lamar and Southeastern are the top two teams in the conference in scoring defense, holding opponents 20.3 and 21.3 points per game, respectively. Lamar ranks sixth in the FCS in passing defense, holding the opposition to just 153.6 passing yards per game. They also rank 14th in scoring defense and 17th in total defense (325.1).
