Kevi Luper Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
FRISCO, Texas – Oral Roberts senior guard Kevi Luper has been named Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This is the third time this season Luper has been honored with the distinction.
Luper led the Golden Eagles to two conference wins over Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana, averaging 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals. In the 84-56 win over Nicholls, the senior from Adair, Okla. (Adair H.S.), recorded her first double-double since Jan. 3, 2011, with 22 points and 10 rebounds against the Colonels. Luper also added three steals, two blocks and an assist in the contest. Against the Lady Lions, Luper posted a season-high five assists to go along with 19 points, three rebounds and three steals. Luper now has 2,632 career points and 427 career steals, which rank 31st and 11th, respectively, in Division I history.
Honorable mention this week goes Central Arkansas senior forward Megan Herbert, McNeese State senior guard Caitlyn Baggett, Sam Houston State senior forward Sequeena Thomas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior guard Ashley Darley. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women’s basketball sports information directors.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
