Picha, Enloe Tabbed Southland Baseball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Lamar first baseman Brad Picha was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week while Central Arkansas left-handed pitcher Jeffery Enloe was named Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Picha was 6 for 13 (.462) with three doubles, six RBI and five runs scored in a three-game series against first-place Southeastern Louisiana. The senior from Stephenville, Texas (Stephenville H.S.), helped the Cardinals hand the Lions their first two conference losses this season, winning 6-2 on Friday and 18-1 on Sunday. In the seven-inning, run-rule victory in the finale, Picha was 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. He also knocked in three runs in the middle game of the series, a 7-5 Southeastern win. 
 
Enloe pitched the entire 11 innings of a 2-1 road win over Northwestern State in the second game of that series. The senior from Gonzalez, La. (Dutchtown H.S.), threw 127 pitches and did not allow an earned run on seven singles and struck out eight. Enloe improved to 6-1 on the year with a 2.20 ERA. 
 
Honorable mention for hitter of the week goes to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior first baseman Brad Porras and Sam Houston State junior catcher Anthony Azar. Honorable mention for pitcher of the week goes to Northwestern State junior right-hander Robert Baker, Stephen F. Austin senior right-hander Brett Higginbotham and A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore right-hander Matt Danton.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
