FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi guard John Jordan has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Jordan led the Islanders to an 84-73 victory over Central Arkansas last Thursday and a 74-72 overtime victory against Oral Roberts on Saturday. The junior from Houston, Texas (Hightower H.S.) scored or assisted on 25 of the team’s final 26 points in lifting A&M-Corpus Christi past the Golden Eagles for the second time this season. Jordan scored 22 points, his ninth 20-point game on the season. He posted nine assists against ORU and eight against UCA, giving him three consecutive games with at least eight assists. The Islanders are 13-14 overall, but enter the week in third place in the conference standings with a 10-4 record.

Honorable mention this week goes to New Orleans senior forward Cory Dixon, Stephen F. Austin sophomore guard Thomas Walkup, Oral Roberts senior guard/forward Shawn Glover and Houston Baptist sophomore guard Rob Lewis.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
