FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas junior outside hitter Heather Schnars was named Southland Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week while Stephen F. Austin junior libero OJ Olson received defensive player of the week honors, the league announced Monday.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Heather Schnars, Central Arkansas
Schnars led the Central Arkansas offense for the week, posting the match-high in kills in all three of the Sugar Bears’ matches at the Seminole Volleyball Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. She recorded a total of 47 kills over the weekend including a season-high 18 kills against Samford. The Downey, Calif. (Downey H.S.), native collected 17 kills in UCA’s win over SEC foe LSU and turned in 12 more against No. 7 Florida State. Schnars had three service aces over the course of the weekend and averaged 4.27 kills per set.

Defensive Player of the Week – OJ Olson, Stephen F. Austin
Olson led Stephen F. Austin to an undefeated 4-0 week, with wins over Louisiana-Monroe (3-2), New Orleans (3-0), Texas-Pan American (3-1) and Louisiana Tech (3-1). The Cedar Park, Texas (Leander H.S.), native racked up 93 digs in the four matches, averaging 5.81 digs per set. Olson had 29 digs against ULM, 18 against UNO, 25 against UTPA and 21 against Louisiana Tech, to hold opponents to a .110 hitting percentage.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
