DENTON, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team split a pair of matches in Denton, Texas, defeating Dallas Baptist 4-1 and falling to No. 70 North Texas 4-0 on Wednesday.
"North Texas is an incredibly tough and disciplined team, who is consistently ranked in the top 70 in the country every year,” head coach Roberto Aspillaga said. “It was encouraging to see our team be so close in so many matches.
“Part of the process of becoming a nationally ranked program is to play at a high level across the board from beginning to end, and that will take time. Our number one goal right now is to get better every match and to be in a position to fight for a conference championship"
SFA’s tandems of Malena Gordo and Dhanielly Quevedo, Denise Maxl and Macarena Sedano Acosta, and Valeria Terentyeva and Vivienne Kulicke swept the doubles point from DBU (0-1) with 7-6 (4), 7-5 and 6-1 wins.
