SFA’s Walkup Named Southland Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin senior guard/forward Thomas Walkup has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Walkup upped his career point total to 1,193, the 18th-highest in SFA history, after averaging 26 point in two games for the Lumberjacks. The senior from Pasadena, Texas (Deer Park H.S.), scored 30 points in the Lumberjacks loss to Northern Iowa and followed that up with 22 points in a win against LSU-Shreveport. Walkup, who shot 58.8 percent from the field (20-for-34), also averaged 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals for the week.
Honorable mention this week goes to Nicholls junior forward Ja'Dante’ Frye, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior forward Bryce Douvier, Sam Houston State junior guard Dakarai Henderson and Lamar freshman guard Nick Garth.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
