HAMMOND, La. – Senior third baseman Brett Hoffman was a combined 5-for-8 with five RBIs Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field as Southeastern Louisiana swept a doubleheader from from Northwestern University by scores of 6-4 and 4-3.
Southeastern (8-4) scored a pair of runs in its final trip to the plate of both games to provide the final margin of victory, walking off in the ninth inning of the finale. Northwestern (1-9) blew three-run leads in both games.
The Lions rallied for a pair of runs in the eighth inning, breaking open a tie game.
Kevin Carr was hit by a pitch with one out and Southeastern head coach Matt Riser sent Jacob Seward in to run. After Carson Crites singled up the middle on a hit-and-run, Wildcat catcher Scott Heelan attempted to pick Seward off second base. The throw sailed into center field allowing both Seward and Crites to move up 90 feet.
Second baseman Jacob Williams, a senior from Hobart, Louisiana, slapped a single through the left side of the drawn-in infield, driving in both Seward and Crites for the lead.
Williams had given Southeastern the lead, 4-3, back in the sixth when he stole home as part of a designed pickoff play, but Northwestern scored a run in its half of the eighth to tie the game.
Mac Sceroler (2-0) pitched the final three innings for the win, allowing one run on two hits. The freshman from Denham Springs, Louisiana, fanned three and did not walk a batter. Reliever Joe Schindler (1-1) was saddled with the loss.
Hoffman was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in game one, driving in a pair with a fourth-inning single. Williams was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Carr scored a pair of runs. Officially 1-for-1 at the plate, the senior from Chandler, Arizona, drew a pair of walks.
In the second game, Northwestern scored three unearned runs in the first and the Lions spent the rest of the game trying to draw even.
Southeastern scored its first run in fourth. Daniel Midyett singled up the middle to lead off the inning. After a pair of groundouts to Wildcat starting pitcher Matt Portland advanced Midyett to third, the junior from Shreveport, Louisiana, scored on Hoffman's RBI single to center.
Carr scored the Lions' second run, singling through the right side to open up the sixth. With one out, he scored all the way from first on Hoffman's double to right center.
The ninth-inning rally started with the Lions down to their final strike.
Second baseman Kennon Menard battled to a full count before he was hit by a two-out pitch. Seward, who finished the second game 3-for-3 at the plate, doubled to right center on a two-strike pitch.
Ryan Byers, a sophomore outfielder from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, smacked a 2-2 pitch into center to drive in Menard and Seward with the tying and winning runs.
Kade Granier (2-0), a freshman from Destrahan, Louisiana, tossed a perfect ninth to earn the win. Kyle Cedotal did not factor in the decision, but was stellar on the mound in a starting role. The junior from Denham Springs allowed three unearned runs on four hits in his eight innings of work. He walked one and fanned seven.

McNeese State 4, UTSA 3
LAKE CHARLES, La. – The McNeese State baseball team completed a weekend sweep over UTSA in doubleheader action on Saturday as the Cowboys clinch the series during the first game in a 4-2 win before having to fight their way back from a two run deficit and sweep the Roadrunners, 4-3.
McNeese improved to 8-4 overall on the season and have now won four straight contests and six of the last 10 games. UTSA fell to 6-4 after being swept for the first time this season.
The Pokes’ offensive performance was a showcase during the doubleheader as they delivered 26 hits through both games along with eight runs and three stolen bases.
McNeese will be back in action on Tuesday, March 3 when it travels to take on Sam Houston State in a non-conference tilt in Huntsville. First pitch is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.

GAME ONE – McNeese State 4, UTSA 2
The Cowboys pounded out 16 hits and four runs in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader that served as enough to clinch the series against the Roadrunners.
Starting pitcher Bryce Kingsley used 7.0 innings of excellent work to help secure the series and pick up his second win on the season. He gave up just one run on five hits and a walk while fanning five batters in the process.
Sophomore Collin Kober earned the first of two saves on the day after coming into the game in relief during the ninth inning. He allowed just one hits and prevented any runs from scoring.
Senior outfielder Andrew Guillotte delivered a solid performance at the plate, batting 4-for-5 along with an RBI and two runs scored. Perhaps, his most impressive highlight came in the eighth inning when he stole two bags on his way to taking sole possession of fourth place in the all-time stolen bases category passing Jason Alleman with 62 career swipes.
Five different Cowboys turned in multi-hit performances including junior Billy Sommers with three hits and Connor Crane, James Cantu and Matt Gallier with two hits each.
The Pokes took a three run lead over UTSA following RBI hits from Guillotte, Sommers in the second inning and Crane in the fourth frame.
McNeese tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when Gallier knocked in a run on a single to left to give the Cowboys a 4-0 lead.
UTSA looked to make a comeback in the eighth inning using back-to-back RBI plays to cut the lead to a two run scored but were unable to capitalize any further.

Stephen F. Austin 8, South Dakota State 7
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin split the Saturday double header to win its first series of the 2015 season, taking two out of three against South Dakota State at Jaycees Field. The Lumberjacks suffered a 12-0 pummeling in game one, but rebounded to rally past the Jackrabbits in game two, taking an 8-7 decision.
Little went right for the Lumberjacks in game one against South Dakota State as the Jackrabbits scored three times each in the first, third and fourth innings to race out to a 9-0 lead. SDSU would score three more runs over the sixth and seventh innings and kept SFA off the scoreboard through the duration as the `Jacks scattered eight hits on the day.
SFA only had a runner in scoring position three times in game one as starter Dillon Mangham took the loss, allowing nine runs (four earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts over 3.2 innings, throwing 102 pitches. Matthew Dickey and Conner Fikes each logged a pair of hits for the `Jacks with four others finishing the total.
The second game of the day proved to be much more entertaining for both sides as South Dakota State once again raced out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a trio of runs in the second inning. SFA responded in the bottom half of the inning, beginning with an RBI single from Anthony Soriano, scoring Dan O'Neill. With the bases loaded, Garrett McMullen hit into a double play, but he was able to bring Tyler Boxwell home from third in the process, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
After the Jackrabbits added a run in the top half of the third, SFA responded once again. Loading the bases thanks to a single from Fikes and a pair of walks, O'Neill then connected on a single up the middle, scoring Fikes from third. That was followed by a single to right from Soriano, scoring Kyle Thornell as the `Jacks tied the game at 4-4 after three.
Two more Jackrabbit runs in the top of the fourth pushed the lead to two at 6-4, a lead that stood until the bottom of the fifth when both Thornell and Boxwell blasted solo home runs one batter apart as the duo each notched their first round trippers of the year to tie the game at 6-6 after five.
South Dakota State answered with a solo home run of its own in the top half of the sixth, taking the lead once again at 7-6. SFA finally claimed its first lead of the game in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two-RBI single from O'Neill to left, scoring Fikes and Dickey as the `Jacks took the lead 8-7.
That set up an impressive performance from the Lumberjack bullpen over the final three innings as Austin Smith and Tyler Wiedenfeld held the Jackrabbits to just one hit and no runs, striking out four in the process. Smith pitched the seventh with Wiedenfeld pitching the eighth and ninth to earn the six-out save, his third of the season.
Jarred Greene picked up his first win of the season for SFA, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing just one run on one hit and a pair of strikeouts. Starter Grant Page lasted 3.0 innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits with a strikeout. Travis Stone also registered 1.0 inning, allowing one hit with no runs and a pair of strikeouts as well.
The 4-7 slots in the lineup proved to be a thorn in the Jackrabbits' side in the nightcap, going a combined 7-for-13 with all seven RBIs and five runs scored. Soriano went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs as O'Neill posted a 2-for-3 night with three runs batted in. Dickey also had a pair of hits in game two, finishing 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
SFA now improves to 4-8 on the season, taking its first series of the 2015 season. The Lumberjacks improved to 3-4 at Jaycees Field and are now 3-2 in one-run games on the year as Wiedenfeld has picked up the save in all three victories.
Up next for the Lumberjacks is a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a date with second-ranked LSU on Tuesday, March 3rd for a 6:30 p.m. opening pitch at Alex Box Stadium. The `Jacks then return home to open up the 2015 Southland Conference schedule, facing Central Arkansas in a three-game series March 6-8 at Jaycees Field.

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team took a 3-1 victory in game one of Saturday's doubleheader with Utah at Ray E. Didier Field, before falling 2-1 in game two.
In the first contest the Colonels (6-3-1) took an early lead after a Christian Correa double sent Justin Holt in for the score. A Marc Frazier two-run blast in the sixth put Nicholls up 3-0. The Utes (2-9) chipped in a run in the seventh, but would come no closer as the Colonels secured the victory.
Righty Ryan Deemes (2-0) earned the win, tossing seven innings and allowing one run on four hits with eight strikeouts. Stuart Holmes picked up his fourth save of the season, allowing just one hit and fanning one batter in relief.
Jayson Rose (0-2) took the loss, surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts.
Correa led Nicholls offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Frazier was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.
Hunter Simmons paced Utah offensively, batting 1-for-2 with an RBI.
In game two, the Utes took advantage of a Colonel error, scoring two unearned runs in the opening frame. Tanner Vandevere grounded out to the shortstop in the sixth, allowing Frazier to come home, but neither team would score for the remainder of the contest and Utah escaped with the win.
Left Grant Borne (0-1) took the loss despite an admirable performance. Borne allowed two unearned runs through six innings on the mound, while fanning nine batters.
Dalton Carroll (1-2) earned the win, surrendering just one run through eight innings with six strikeouts. Hunter Rodriguez registered his first save of the season, throwing two scoreless innings and fanning three Nicholls batters.
Frazier led the Colonels offensively with a 2-for-4 night and a run scored. Holt also finished 2-for-4.
Dallas Carroll paced the Utes at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Weather permitting Nicholls and Utah will square off at noon on Sunday for the series finale. The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., but was moved up in an attempt to avoid incoming storms. Sunday's contest will be broadcast live on KTIB 640 AM.

Northwestern State 4, Sacred Heart 0

NATCHITOCHES, La. – In the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Brown-Stroud Field, Josh Oller was coolly efficient, making quick work of visiting Sacred Heart.
The nightcap, however, was a different story.
Despite the two different approaches, Northwestern State came away with a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Pioneers when Chase Daughdrill smacked a walkoff single to right center field to give the Demons a 2-1, 16-inning victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, Oller fired a complete-game shutout, scattering three hits on 93 pitches.
“I’m proud of our guys for sweeping and for hanging in there that last game,” third-year head coach Lane Burroughs said. “Our pitching was really, really good this weekend. Thirty-four innings we played against that club, and they scored two runs. Our pitchers were phenomenal.”
Jeffrey Stovall followed Oller’s lead from the first game by going nine innings, allowing one run and striking out eight in the second game. Stovall allowed a first-ininng run before he, Chase Hymel (4 1-3 innings), Brandon Smith (1 inning) and Brandon Stane (1 2-3 innings) blanked the Pioneers (0-3) the rest of the way.
However, Sacred Heart’s Robbie Maguire and relievers James Cooksey (6 2-3 innings) and Alex Perry (2 innings) combined to keep the Demons (5-6) off the scoreboard from the fourth inning until the decisive 16
th inning.
The Demons managed to keep the Pioneers off the board despite Sacred Heart putting the leadoff runner on base in the final four innings. Stane (1-0) got out of the last two jams thanks to a pair of 6-4-3 double plays started by Joel Atkinson and turned by David Fry.
Fry ignited the game-winning rally with a leadoff single before being sacrificed to second by Bret Underwood. Cort Brinson singled to shallow center, allowing Fry to scamper to third base.
C.J. Webster then nubbed a bouncer back to pitcher Dan Wertz (0-1), who could not field the ball cleanly loading the bases.
“Offensively, we battled,” Burroughs said. “I saw some things tonight I’ve never seen before. We have the go-ahead run at second base in the 16
th inning, get a single to center and can’t score. Then we hit one back to the pitcher, and he misses it. You’re sitting there saying, ‘I think I’m seeing it all.’”
For the remaining members of the 416 fans who showed up Saturday, they saw the final act one batter after Webster, as Daughdrill fell behind in the count before drilling a long walkoff single into the right-center field alley.
“I just wanted to get a pitch up in the zone that I could lift into the outfield,” said Daughdrill, who went 6-for-11 with a home run and four RBIs in the doubleheader sweep. “I didn’t really care if it was a hit or not. I just wanted to get that run in so we could go to the house.”
In the opener, Daughdrill’s home run and Oller’s pitching performance – which included 4 2-3 innings of no-hit ball to start the game – helped secure the Demons’ first series win of the season.
Nearly five hours later, Daughdrill’s base hit made sure the Demons’ mentality was rewarded.
“It’s always good to sweep somebody,” Daughdrill said. “We talked about before the game about not being satisfied with just a series win, go out and sweep somebody. It’s always good, especially in this fashion. We had a bunch of walkoff wins last year in this same kind of fashion. It’s always good when you can finally have a big win like that.”
The Demons return to action Tuesday when they host ULM at 6:30 p.m. NSU will head to Lafayette to face UL Lafayette on Wednesday before beginning Southland Conference play at Lamar next weekend.

HOUSTON, Texas – Arkansas State claimed a 13-2 victory in the first game, then held HBU off for a 2-1 win in the second game to sweep the doubleheader and the three-game non-conference baseball series Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.
In the second game, senior third baseman Curtis Jones went 2-for-4, while junior second baseman Greg Espinosa singled and scored. Junior rightfielder Austin Saenz doubled for the Huskies (5-6).
Senior Brandon Hammerly (1-2) took the loss for HBU, allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits in five innings. Junior Andrew Alvarez and senior Josh Martinez each worked two scoreless innings.
Ty White went 2-for-5 and scored a run for the Red Wolves (7-3), while Jeremy Brown homered and Joe Schrimpf had the other RBI.
Tyler Zuber (2-0) picked up the win for ASU, shutting the Huskies out on four hits with four strikeouts in six innings. Coulton Lee earned his first save, giving up an unearned run on two hits in three innings.
In the first game, Jones went 1-for-2 with a run for the Huskies, and senior centerfielder Zach Nehrir went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs.
Junior Matthew McCollough (2-1) took the loss, allowing nine runs on seven hits in two innings. Senior Ross Kennell shut ASU out on one hit in five innings of relief.
Schrimpf went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and totaled five RBIs on the day, while Brown went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored three times. Lucas Feddersen drove in a run and scored three, and Tanner Ring went 2-for-5 with a home run. White drove in a pair of runs for ASU.
Joe Glidewell (1-0) picked up the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits in six innings. Three pitchers combined to hold the Huskies scoreless over the final three innings.
The Huskies return to action against third-ranked Houston Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at Cougar Field, before returning home to host McNeese State in the Southland Conference opening series Friday through Sunday at Husky Field.

MONROE, La. -- The Sam Houston State baseball team’s weekend struggles continued with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Louisiana-Monroe Saturday at Warhawk Field.
The Bearkats were shut out, 6-0, in game one and fell 7-5 in game two. Starting pitchers Andrew Godail and Sam Odom were both credited with losses in the two games, dropping each of their records to 0-2.
Godail, the senior left-hander, pitched seven innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. He struck out nine batters and issued just one walk. ULM’s game-one starter Alex Hermeling tossed a four-hit complete-game shutout with four strikeouts.
Odom lasted just 4 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on five hits while the Warhawk starter Brandon Bell pitched seven strong innings and picked up the win.
Right fielder Travis Lee had his 14-game hitting streak snapped in the second game of the doubleheader. He was one of the four Kats to have a hit in the first game but couldn’t manage one in the second. Lee reached on a walk and scored a run.
The Kats jumped out to a 3-0 lead and had a 4-2 lead going to the bottom of the fifth inning. ULM scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
Shortstop Miles Manning was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI after he went 2-for-2 in the second game. First baseman Spence Rahm was the only other SHSU player to have more than one hit.
The series finale will be played Sunday at 11 a.m.

Missouri State 10, Central Arkansas 1
NATCHITOCHES, La. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears scored first on Saturday but Missouri State reeled off 10 consecutive runs to take a 10-1 victory in non-conference action at Northwestern State’s Brown-Stroud Field.
UCA (3-3) got a run in the top of the third inning when junior center fielder Tyler Langley singled up the middle, went to third on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on Braxton Phillips’ ground out. It was all Missouri State after that.
A four-run seventh inning put the game out of reach and MSU added an insurance run in the eighth.
MSU out-hit UCA 14-4 and took advantage of a pair of UCA errors.
Langley went 2 for 3 as the only UCA play with multiple hits. MSU right fielder Blake Graham finished 4 for 5 with 3 runs batted in and 4 runs scored, while first baseman Justin Paulsen was 3 for 4. Five MSU players had multiple hits.
UCA starter Andrew Kemmerer went four innings, allowing just 1 earned run, walking 5 and striking out 2. Josh Markel allowed 4 runs in 3 innings.
The teams meet in the series finale at 10 a.m. Sunday.

New Mexico State 8, UIW 7
LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped a 12-inning game, 8-7 against New Mexico State on Saturday.
After three scoreless extra innings, the Aggies finally pushed the winning run across the plate for a walk-off win, their first win of the season. Aaron Duran got on first base with one out on a hit by pitch, advanced to second on a single by Daniel Johnson, and later scored the winning run on a Michael Paulson single to right field.
The Cardinals (5-7) found themselves down 5-4 in the eighth inning, but took the lead 7-5 with RBI singles from Blake Woosley (Corvallis, OR/Philomath HS), Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) and Jesse Hoover (Marion/Marion HS).
The Aggies (1-9) responded in the bottom half of the inning with a 2-run single from Brent Hermanussen that tied the game at 7-7 and would send it to extra frames.
Johnson led the Aggies with four hits and two runs. Derek Umphres collected four RBI for the game, including a three-run homerun in the bottom of the third inning. Billy Conard got the win for New Mexico State going six innings in relief of Matt Loeffler. He surrendered seven hits, three runs and three walks while striking out seven.
The Cardinals pitching staff took a hit in the extra-inning loss. UIW used nine pitchers and Austin Hoffman (Goodyear, AZ/Millenium HS) got tagged with the loss. John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS), Tyler Miller (Conroe/Oak Ridge HS) and Adam Hunter (Yoakum/Yoakum HS) combined for 6.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Hoover collected three hits, a run and an RBI. Woosley had two hits, two RBI and a run scored while Morris, Hoffman and Ethan McGill (Penn Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) all had two hits and an RBI apiece.
The Cardinals totaled 13 hits, seven runs and committed three errors and the Aggies finished with 13 hits, eight runs and four errors.
The Cardinals and Aggies will face off in the rubber game of the series on Sunday at 2:05 p.m.

Texas-Pan American 11, Lamar 8
EDINBURG, Texas - Bullpen woes hurt the Lamar baseball team again on Saturday when the Cards surrendered a seven-run sixth inning that helped the Broncs win the series on a 11-8 victory at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium in non-conference action.
The series finale is scheduled for noon on Sunday. The Cardinals are expected to start right-hander Will Hibbs (1-0, 4.82), and will be opposed by Robert Quinonez (0-0, 4.15).
UTPA (7-4) opened the bottom of the sixth inning with an 8-4 deficit, but forced Lamar (6-4) to go through five pitchers to get three outs but not before they allowed six runs to cross the plate. Brandon Love, who entered the game in the fourth, started the inning by plunking Isaac Gonzalez, and was replaced by Brett Brown.
Brown walked Cole Loncar on four-straight balls, and was pulled for Brandon Kirkham, making his first appearance this season. Kirkham promptly hit Jesus Garcia to load the bases with no outs. All three base runners moved up a bag on a wild pitch.
Kirkham forced Logan Landon to fly out to shallow right field to keep the runner from advancing, but walked Jacob Huckabay on four-straight balls in the next plate appearance. He fell behind 3-1 to the next batter, Victor Garcia, and was replaced by Ryan Cawthon.
Cawthon's first pitch was a ball which scored one run and kept the bases loaded. He struck out Edgar Cordon, but gave up a two-out single up middle to Manny Loredo that scored two Broncs and tie the game. Scott Mercer was walked to load the bases again, and Gonzalez singled to left field to score two more.
After the Gonzalez's single, Cawthon was replaced by Derek Wade, who uncorked two wild pitches to let the last run of the inning cross.
The Cardinals used runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to grab an 8-4 lead.
Senior catcher Brandon Provost led off the Lamar third frame with a first-pitch double in that bounced off of the left field wall. Two batters later, Jake Nash singled to left field and Provost was held up to put runners on first and third bases with just one out.
Kevin Santana followed Nash with a two-bagger into left field that scored both Cardinals. After a pitching change, Tyler Sullivan was walked, and both he a Santana moved up a bag on a wild pitch. Joe Arechiga notched his third run batted in of the season on a single up the middle.
The bottom of the third inning was just as crucial as the Broncs made a charge to tie the game for a third time, but fell one run short in the frame. Landon, who sparked Friday's rally, opened the frame with a single through the left side.
Huckabay followed with a double to left center and pushed across Landon. Two batters later, Loredo lined a two-out single through the left side that scored Huckabay, but Cardinal starter Chase Angelle forced the next batter, Scott Mercer, to line out.
CJ Moore, who led off the fourth with a full-count walk, scored the run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Cutter McDowell. Moore advanced to third base on Provost's single through the left side.
Stijn van der Meer sparked the sixth inning rally with a leadoff double and took third on a wild pitch just after a Bronc pitching change. Provost drew a one-out walk, and advanced to second on a single from McDowell, that scored van der Meer. One batter later, Reed Seeley drew a five-pitch walk that loaded the bases for Nash, who notched a RBI on a hit by pitch.
The two clubs went back-and-fourth in the first two inning and were tied on the outset of the third.
The first run of the game scored on a Lamar error just after a single to left field from Huckabay. Landon scored on the play after a single the play before and was held at third on Huckabay's single, but the cutoff throw was bobbled by van der Meer.
Lamar answered with two in top of the second on a RBI single from Sullivan, scored McDowell, and an error off of the bat of Joe Arechiga, scored Nash.
The Broncs tied the game at 2-2 the bottom half of the frame on a single up the middle by Loncar that pushed across Scott Mercer.
Angelle lasted three innings and surrendered four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks. He was relieved by Love in the fourth inning who allowed the one run, the batter hit in the sixth, on no hits and two walks. Kirkham was tagged with the loss.
UTPA starter Ryan Jackson only worked 2.2 innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk. The last three pitchers of the game for UTPA locked down the Cardinal offense with three inning worked and only two hits allowed.
Both McDowell and Santana drove in two runs on the day on one hit and also scored a run. Provost, Nash, Sullivan and van der Meer all had two hits in the contest, and Provost and Nash each scored runs.
After Texas-Pan American, the Cardinals return home for a four-game home stand that features Prairie View A&M and the open of conference play with Northwestern State.

Middle Tennessee 15, New Orleans 2
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (4-7) squandered a middle inning opportunity at the plate, then gave up an eight-run sixth inning in a 15-2 loss to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (7-1) on Saturday at the Lakefront Arena.
After falling behind 6-0 through the first three frames, the Privateers scratched the scoreboard for the first time on the day. After Preston Marsh led off the inning with a single, Sam Carriere drove in the first run with a double. Matt Rykaczewski followed with an RBI single while getting his first collegiate start.
The Privateers then got a 1-2-3 inning on the mound from Daniel Martinez in the top of the fifth. New Orleans then led off the bottom half of the same frame with a Ryan Calloway single. A pair of hit batters loaded the bases with two outs. However, Will Small induced a ground out to end the Privateers threat.
From there, Middle Tennessee poured an eight-run inning to run their lead to 14-2. The Blue Raiders had six extra base hits (three doubles, three home runs) in the win. Eight of the nine Middle Tennessee starters collected a hit in the win.
Rykaczewski went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his first collegiate start. Jonathan Coco also registered a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate. The Privateers collected 10 hits on the day. New Orleans used six pitchers on the game.
Small picked up the win after throwing 1.2 innings and retiring five of six batters faced. Three relievers combined to allow just three hits in 4.2 frames of work. Dustin Delgado, Brad Jarreau, Jared Allen, and Jake Ingold each had three RBIs.
The Privateers will close the series Sunday with a first pitch set for 1 p.m.
