Ladyjacks Shut Out by UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin softball team dropped its sixth straight game on Monday evening, falling to UTSA 11-0 in five innings at Roadrunner Field. The Ladyjacks drop to 7-16 with the loss while the Roadrunners improve to 20-8 on the year.
UTSA got off to a fast start, using four home runs in the first two innings to build a 7-0 lead. Averaging 1.52 homers per game entering the matchup, the Roadrunners improved on their 12th-best mark in the NCAA on Monday against SFA.
Megan Low opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the first inning. Tess Soefje and Madison Kinley started the second frame with back-to-back solo home runs before Courtney Buchman recorded a three-run dinger later in the inning. All seven Roadrunner runs in the first two frames were accounted for by a home run.
UTSA added three more runs in the third and another in the fourth to build the 11-0 cushion. The Roadrunners notched 10 hits on the night compared to the Ladyjacks’ three.
Lindsay Campbell slapped her first double of the season with one out in the second inning, but couldn’t advance past the halfway point on the diamond. Taylor Vick and Katelyn Standley also provided hits for SFA in the game.
Chelsea Parker (7-2) picked up the win for UTSA after allowing just one hit in three scoreless frames. Makayla Sikes (1-7) took the loss for SFA after giving up four runs on four hits in one inning of work.
The Ladyjacks will next travel to play Texas State on Wednesday afternoon. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
