Northwestern State 10, Louisiana Tech 5
NATCHITOCHES, La. – Micayla Sorosiak notched her second four RBI performance in as many games, leading Northwestern State softball to a 10-5 victory against Louisiana Tech on Wednesday night at the Lady Demon Diamond.

The win was NSU’s (16-12, 6-0 Southland) season-long seventh straight while the eighth double-digit scoring affair of the year tied the program record set in 2005 and matched last season.

The Lady Demons put up six runs in the top of the first, chasing Louisiana Tech (16-8) starter Carolina Sanchez (2-1) from the game. In the frame, Jones, Brittany Virgoe and Cassandra Barefield all drew walks while Sorosiak recorded two RBIs on a single and Baylee Shephard, making her fifth start behind the plate, registered a RBI double.

Freshman Mikayla Brown made her first collegiate start for the Lady Demons, tossing 1 2-3 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out two and walking another. Micaela Bouvier (8-4) entered in relief, throwing the final 5 1-3 innings, scattering five hits and allowing three earned runs while striking out six and walking four. The right-hander also picked up the win, her fifth in as many games.

After the Lady Techsters recorded two runs in the second, NSU countered with two outs in the bottom half of the frame. A Barefield single, Singles from Barefield and Jones sandwiched between a Natalie Landry hit by pitch set the stage for Sorosiak to drive home two more runs on a single.

Kellye Kincannon pushed her team-leading hit streak to seven with a RBI single in the third, plating Sidney Salmans and putting NSU up 9-4. Salmans was again impressive in the leadoff spot, finishing 3-for-4 and scoring two runs.

Jones hit her eighth home run of the season with a solo shot in the sixth to provide the final Lady Demons run. The first baseman finished 2-for-3, scoring three runs and driving home two others. The multi-RBI game was her sixth this season.

The meeting was the 95th all-time between the Lady Demons and Lady Techsters and was NSU’s third straight victory against its in-state rival. The two squads will meet again in Ruston on April 15.

The Lady Demons continue their homestand by welcoming Southland foe Sam Houston State to town this weekend. The squad’s will meet in a Friday doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. and conclude the series on Saturday at one o’clock.

Texas-Arlington 4, Lamar 2
ARLINGTON, Texas – The Lamar Lady Cardinals couldn't overcome a slow start as they dropped a 4-2 decision to host UT Arlington in a non-conference softball game Wednesday.

Lamar (13-11) fell behind 2-0 after one inning and didn't get until Sarah Ragsdale singled with one out in the top of the fourth, the first ball Lamar got out of the infield. Sable Hankins hit into a double play on the very next pitch to end the inning.

UT Arlington (15-14) opened the scoring when Meagan Michele's two-out triple drove in Sandra Mendoza. Michele scored on a single by Shelbi Sikes.

The Mavericks made it 3-0 in the third when Michele homered to left field off Lamar starter Laura Napoli (9-6).

The Lady Cardinals answered with a run in the top of the fifth as Shannon Sain scored on a Brynn Baca fielder's choice. UT Arlington made it 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth as Mallory Foster homered on the first pitch thrown by Lamar reliever Lauren Dannelley.

Lamar tried to get some late-inning heroics as Jenna Holland doubled with two outs in the seventh and raced home to score on Baca's infield single, but it was too little too late for the Lady Cardinals.

UT Arlington starter Sam Montes (6-8) pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and two runs, both earned. She did not allow a walk and struck out one.

Napoli allowed five hits and three runs, all earned over five innings. She walked two.

Lamar's Stephanie Meeuwsen singled in the fifth inning to extend her streak of reaching base successfully to 18 straight games, two shy of the school record of 20 she shares with Beverly Corry. Sain's single extended her streak of reaching base safely to a career-best 17 games.

Lamar returns to action with a three-game Southland Conference series at Incarnate Word this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader that is now slated to start at noon Friday, followed by a single game at noon Saturday. Friday's games will be broadcast live on www.LamarCardinals.com.

Texas State 9, Stephen F. Austin 0 (5)
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Texas State on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 heartbreaker in extra innings in game one and falling 9-0 in the second contest. The Ladyjacks have now lost eight straight games and haven’t scored a run in 19 innings.

In game one, the Ladyjacks (7-18) and the Bobcats (18-12) played to a scoreless draw after seven innings. After a runner was placed on second to start the bottom of the eighth inning, Texas State capitalized on an SFA error to earn the 1-0 walk-off.

Alisa Hamilton, Brittany Lewis, Katelyn Standley, Taylor Vick and Autumn Holloway each recorded a hit in the loss as Bobcat pitcher Randi Rupp made things difficult for the Ladyjacks at the plate. Rupp (12-8) struck out 14 batters overall in eight scoreless innings to pick up the win.

In game two, the Ladyjacks were once again held scoreless with Hamilton and Taylor Fraccastoro providing SFA’s only two hits. On the other end, the Bobcats scored nine runs on 14 hits, putting up three in the first inning and six in the fourth to end the game in five innings. Kortney Koroll and Ariel Ortiz each homered for Texas State in the game as the duo accounted for six RBI.
