Texas-Pan American 6, Lamar 4
EDINBURG, Texas - Big innings have been the key for Texas-Pan American all weekend, and again the Broncs use a five-run third inning to sweep the Lamar baseball team with a 6-4 victory on Sunday at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium in non-conference action.
On Friday it was a five-run eighth inning and Saturday saw a six-run sixth, both were comebacks for the Brocns (8-3), but Sunday's big inning was used to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Logan Landon singled through the left side and pushed across Isaac Gonzalez, who led off the frame with a four-pitch walk. Gonzalez moved up to second base when Cole Loncar was walked one batter later. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Jesus Garcia.
Loncar advanced to third base on Landon's hit, and Landon stole second after his single to give UTPA runners on second and third with one out, again. Jacob Huckabay took advantage of the runners in scoring position with a triple to center field.
One batter later, Manny Loredo singled to first, but not enough to send Huckabay to the play, but he was able to score on a wild pitch to the next batter, Victor Garcia. Garcia grounded out to the right side, which allowed Loredo to move to third, and Scott Mercer singled through the right side to give the Broncs a five-run lead.
Lamar cut into the lead in the fifth inning, which started with a single up the middle by Kevin Santana. He scored on Tyler Sullivan's triple to left center one batter later, and Sullivan scored on a bunt single by Brendan Satran.
Satran scored the final run of the inning two batters later on a fielder's choice off of the bat of Reed Seeley.
UTPA pushed it back out to 6-3 with a RBI double from Loncar that scored Correy Davis, who reached on a hit by pitch. Lamar answered with a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Provost that scored Stijn van der Meer, who led off the inning with a single to left field.
The hit pushed van der Meer's hit streak to nine games.
