HUNTSVILLE, Texas – A Miles Manning walk-off hit in game one and a dominant starting performance by Logan Boyd in game two led Sam Houston State to a doubleheader sweep of Nicholls. The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. There will be no game Saturday.
Sam Houston took Game 1 by a score of 2-1 and in Game 2 the Bearkats won 6-2.
GAME 1:
The Bearkats and Colonels were knotted 1-1 going to the bottom of the ninth before Manning’s heroics in the series opener.
First baseman Spence Rahm, who had four hits over the two games, worked a walk with one out in the ninth and was pinch-run for by senior Wyatt Powell. After a fly out, second baseman Zach Smith singled to center field to extend the inning. Powell moved to third when the center fielder misplayed the ball.
Manning then lined a 2-1 pitch into center field to score Powell and end the game.
SHSU started the game well after left fielder Bryce Johnson led off the game with a single up the middle and Colt Atwood sacrificed him to second base. The freshman moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error at shortstop. Travis Lee picked up the RBI with the ground ball to shortstop.
The Kats would then go until the seventh inning without another hit.
Nicholls tied the game in the top of the seventh. With one out designated hitter Justin Smith doubled into the gap in left center and scored on a single by second baseman Tanner Vandevere.
Starter Andrew Godail tossed seven innings and allowed just the one run on five hits. He finished with five strikeouts and didn’t issue a walk in the game.
GAME 2:
The Kats started the ballgame with an offensive barrage. Center fielder Colt Atwood, Smith and Johnson each singled to start the game. Atwood came home for the first run on Johnson’s single to left field.
Right fielder Travis Lee and Rahm each worked walks to plate a second run with just one out in the bottom of the first. Catcher Collin Yelich was hit by a pitch to drive in a third run.
Shortstop Miles Manning legged out an infield single to give Sam Houston a 4-0 lead going to the second inning.
Sam Houston added two more runs with two outs in the second inning. Lee singled to center field and designated hitter Dylan Ebbs worked a walk. Rahm singled to plate Lee and third baseman Hunter Courson drove in Ebbs with a single to center.
After Logan Boyd had been perfect for the first three frames, Nicholls got to him with some small ball. A bunt single started the inning. Then Boyd fielded a sacrifice bunt attempt and made a great play but the ball was dropped at first base putting two runners on with no outs. After another infield single the Colonels got on the board with a sacrifice fly.
Neither team would score the rest of the way.
Boyd went eight innings and allowed the one run on six hits. He also struck out five batters in the game. Sophomore Sam Odom tossed a perfect ninth inning in relief.

HOUSTON, Texas – The HBU baseball team got strong showings from both their pitchers and hitters in taking two games from Central Arkansas by scores of 10-1 and 9-2 on Friday as part of a doubleheader at Husky Field.
The Huskies (11-11, 3-2 SLC) outscored UCA (11-6, 6-2 SLC) 19-3 and out hit the Bears 29-12 in pulling even on the season at 11-11. The victories also gave UCA, who entered the series 6-0 in Southland Conference action, its first losses in league play.
Junior Brandon Morones turned in two multi-hit games, going 5-for-7 in total with four runs scored. Senior Sam Wiggins followed Morones with a 5-for-9 day, with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. The Huskies, after adding one run in the third, plated five more across the sixth (1), seventh (3) and eighth innings (1) to break the game open and give Wright plenty of cushion as he retired the side for his fourth time on the day in the ninth.

Nehrir walked and advanced to second on a sac bunt, before senior Curtis Jones delivered him on a single to right field. Angelle had been the "Saturday guy" for the Cardinals for most of this season. It was the first series he opened.

Lamar added another in the third inning when Reed Seeley singled to center field and scored Moore for the second time. Moore reached with a one-out infield single and advanced to second on when Nash flew out to left field. Santana pushed Moore up to third base with another infield single.
The Cardinals took advantage of a couple of UNO errors in the fifth inning and pushed it to 4-0. Nash reached first to lead off the inning after he was plucked for the second time in the game. He scored when Seeley reached on a fielding error, and Seeley scored on Kyle Markum's double to right center.
The dagger was in the seventh inning, which started with three-straight singles from Santana, Seeley and Markum. Markum's hit scored Santana for his second run batted in of the game, tied a career high. Seeley scored when Brendan Satran reached on a throwing error from the third baseman on a sacrifice bunt, and Markum scored on Mason Salazar's sacrifice fly to right field.
LU's final run of the game and seventh inning was Satran on Justin Eckols' sacrifice fly.
The Privateers scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ray Veit grounded out to second base and pushed across Matt Rykacze. Rykacze reached on a first-pitch double to center field and advanced to third on a ground out from Parker Jones.

All but one hitter in the starting lineup had a hit in the contest, and every starter reached base. Lamar used two pinch hitters, and one (Provost) reached base on a hit.
It was Lamar's second shutout this season, first was a 12-0 win over Manhattan.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Another weekend, another complete game for one of Northwestern State’s Oller brothers.
Josh Oller went the distance in Friday’s second game of a Southland Conference doubleheader at Stephen F. Austin, helping the Demons earn a split of the twinbill with a 6-3 victory.
Oller’s second complete game of the year came after SFA (7-17, 2-6) edged the Demons (12-10, 6-2), 5-3, in the opener.
In the nightcap, Northwestern State gave Oller (5-0) plenty of cushion with a four-run fourth inning that turned a one-run lead into a five-run advantage.
C.J. Webster, Caleb Dugas and Miller Parker drove in runs in the fourth and Dugas scored on wild pitch. It was the first RBI of Parker’s career and came in his first career start.
Parker also led off the seventh inning with a triple and scored on Joel Atkinson’s RBI single.
Oller meanwhile kept the Lumberjacks under control until the ninth inning when SFA’s Eric DeJesus drilled a two-out, two-run triple to make things interesting. Oller then retired Matthew Dickey to finish NSU’s victory.
In the first game, SFA jumped to a 2-0 advantage against Adam Oller (3-2) and used a tiebreaking two-run seventh inning to grab the victory.
Cort Brinson cut the lead to 4-3 in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly, but the Demons were unable to draw any closer.
The series concludes Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches. With a forecast calling for a 90 percent chance of rain around Nacogdoches, the teams decided to move up their Saturday game and created Friday’s doubleheader.
