PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Stephen F. The win ends a 10-game losing skid for the Ladyjacks, who improve to 8-20 on the season.
Sophomore Brittany Lewis did a little bit of everything on Wednesday afternoon, pitching a complete game while notching two hits and scoring two runs offensively. She allowed just five hits and struck out three in five scoreless innings of work in the circle to earn the win for the Ladyjacks and improve her record to 2-2 on the year.
At the plate, Lewis paced the SFA bats with a 2-for-3 afternoon while accounting for one of three Ladyjacks to score two runs. Lindsay Campbell and Alisa Hamilton each scored a pair of runs from the 8-9 spots in the lineup. Campbell was a perfect 2-for-2 and Hamilton hit safely in one of two at-bats as each outfielder also reached base on a walk.
Katelyn Standley also had a productive day, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Taylor Fraccastoro matched Standley’s two RBI while going 1-for-2 with a walk.
The Ladyjacks capitalized on six Prairie View errors in the ballgame and totaled nine hits in 23 at-bats (.391) en route to the mercy rule victory.
After Lewis got hit by a pitch to start the game, Standley and Fraccastoro hit back-to-back doubles to put SFA on the board. Fraccastoro’s shot down the left field line scored both Lewis and Standley as the Ladyjacks held a 2-0 cushion after one.
In the second, Campbell walked and stole second to put a runner in scoring position for Lewis. The SFA pitcher found a gap in the left side for a single and a PVAMU error sent Campbell home for the 3-0 lead.
The Ladyjacks closed the day with three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Heather Hollingsworth slapped an RBI single into left field and Standley followed with a two-run double to center in the frame to pad the SFA lead to 6-0 after four.
Shalie Day led off the fifth inning with a walk and Campbell and Hamilton each singled shortly after. Overall, the Lady Panthers (3-12) committed four errors in the fifth inning, with three of them leading to SFA runs. The scores off miscues capped the run barrage for the Ladyjacks, who held on for the 9-0 win.
SFA will get back to its conference slate this weekend against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi. The Ladyjacks will battle the Islanders on Friday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. while wrapping up the three-game set on Saturday afternoon at noon.
