Day, Napoli Earn Southland Softball Players of the Week Honors

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin senior first baseman Shalie Day was selected Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week while Lamar freshman right-hander Laura Napoli was named pitcher of the week, the league office announced Monday.
Hitter of the Week – Shalie Day, Stephen F. Austin
Day helped Stephen F. Austin go 4-0 in games she played in last week, hitting the ball at an efficient .667 clip by going 8-for-12 at the plate. The senior from Ashdown, Ark. (Ashdown H.S.), went a perfect 5-for-5 in the second game of last Friday’s doubleheader against Abilene Christian, claiming two runs, two doubles, a home run and five RBI to propel the Ladyjacks to a thrilling 14-3 victory. Day drew four walks on the week and reached base safely in 76.5 percent of her at-bats. She scored a total of five runs in four games last week including two home runs, along with tallying 8 RBI.

Pitcher of the Week – Laura Napoli, Lamar
Napoli continues to pound out innings for Lamar as she went 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA on the week in 21.1 innings pitched. The freshman from Houston, Texas (Clear Brook H.S.), had a career high six strikeouts against Alcorn State last Wednesday in the Lady Cardinals 13-2 run-rule win. She threw eight total strikeouts in four games last week while holding opponents to a .212 batting average. Napoli’s 15 wins on the season are just two shy of the school record. This is the second time this season Napoli has been named Southland Pitcher of the Week, she was also named for the weekly award on March 3.
