Southeastern Louisiana 5, Louisiana-Lafayette 3
LAFAYETTE, La. – Southeastern Louisiana scored three runs in the top of the eight inning Tuesday at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field, rallying to snap the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's six-game winning streak with a 5-3 victory.

Southeastern (27-11) trailed, 3-2, heading into the eighth as the Ragin' Cajuns (21-14) had scored three unanswered runs in the game.

Jacob Seward started the one-out rally, reaching base after getting hit by a pitch. Julian Service reached on fielders choice to put a pair on. The junior from Sarnia, Ontario, chopped the ball back to the mound, but shortstop Blake Trahan was caught out of position and could not get to the bag in time to force Seward.

After an errant pickoff attempt by reliever Colton Lee (1-3) allowed both runners to advance into scoring position, UL Lafayette elected to intentionally walk Daniel Midyett to load the bases. Kevin Carr ended Lee's night, driving the ball to right field for a game-tying single.

Brett Hoffman greeted new reliever Dylan Moore with a two-run single through the left side, driving in Service and Midyett for the lead.

Lion relievers Drew Avans and Mac Sceroler, both freshmen, worked a scoreless inning each to close out the game.

Catcher Chris Eades gave Southeastern an early lead, blasting his second home run of the season back in the third. The junior from Slidell, Louisiana, knocked a two-run bomb to right after Lafayette native Kennon Menard was hit by a pitch to open the inning.

The Ragin' Cajuns would score single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to wipe out Southeastern's early lead.

Junior right-hander Pat Cashman did not factor in the decision despite allowing just two runs in six innings of work. The Lions' starting pitcher fanned three and did not walk a batter.

Dreagan Bethel (1-0) earned the first win of his collegiate career and Sceroler fanned a pair en route to nailing down his fifth save of the season. Lee was saddled with the loss.

With the victory head coach Matt Riser moved into seventh place on the Lions' all-time coaching wins list, surpassing former coach Dan Canevari with the 65th win of his career.

Jacob Seward (2-for-3) led the Lions at the plate, extending his hitting streak to 15 games and reached-base streak to 26 games. Eades and Hoffman both drove in a pair.

Southeastern returns to conference play at 6 p.m. Friday against McNeese State in the opener of a three-game series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Baylor 2, UIW 1
WACO, TEXAS – Senior right-hander Kris Looper (Wharton/Wharton HS) was a hard-luck loser for the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team on Tuesday night in a 2-1 loss at Baylor University on Tuesday night.

Looper allowed two runs in the first inning and after giving up a double in the second inning he did not allow a hit over the final 6.1 innings of the ball game.  It was his best outing of the season as he allowed a total of five hits, two runs and two walks while striking out a career high eight batters.  The loss dropped him to 0-4 on the season.

The Bears (14-22) had four hits in the first inning.  Logan Brown led off with a double and scored on a single by Adam Toth who later scored on Mitch Price's single.  Brown added another double in the second inning, but that was the last hit for the Bears.

Kody Hessemer picked up the win after holding the Cardinals (11-24) to three hits, one run and one walk in 5.0 innings of work.  Four other relievers combined to pitch the final four shutout innings.  Brad Kuntz picked up the save and struck out two in the ninth inning.

The lone run for the Cardinals came in the fourth inning.  Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) led off with a walk and later scored on a single by Ethan McGill (Penn Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS).  The rally ended on a line out double play.  UIW put runners in scoring position in the third, seventh and eighth innings, but were unable to get the tying run.

The Cardinals are back in action this weekend for a three-game series with Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin.  They play Friday at 6:30, Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Arkansas 8, Stephen F. Austin 2
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Stephen F. Austin spotted host Arkansas five runs through the first three innings and was unable to recover from the early deficit, falling to the Razorbacks 8-2 at Baum Stadium Tuesday evening. The loss is the fifth-straight for SFA who falls to 12-24 on the season.

Playing its third Southeastern Conference school of the season, SFA found itself in a big hole early, giving up one run in the first and two runs each in both the second and third, giving Arkansas the early 5-0 advantage. The Razorbacks added a run each in both the fifth and sixth, extending their lead to 7-0 after six complete.

SFA finally got on the board in the top of the seventh when Dan O'Neill knocked a solo shot to right field, his third of the season, cutting the Arkansas lead to 7-1. The Razorbacks added another run in the eighth before Brandon Smith knocked an RBI single in the top of the ninth, driving in Garrett McMullen for the final 8-2 margin.

McMullen and Conner Fikes each had two hits for SFA, accounting for half of the Lumberjacks' eight hits on the night. O'Neill, Smith, Matthew Dickey and Nick Ramos each had one for SFA with Ramos extending his streak to seven games with at least one hit.

Starter Patrick Day picked up the loss for SFA, allowing five runs on four hits over 2.1 innings with six walks. Four other `Jacks limited Arkansas to three runs on six hits over the next 5.2 innings, including holding Andrew Benintendi, the nation's leading home run hitter, to an 0-for-4 performance on the night.
SFA will have little time to think about the loss as the Lumberjacks and Razorbacks return to Baum Stadium for a 3 p.m. first pitch Wednesday afternoon. LHP Eric Polivka is scheduled to get the start for the `Jacks as the game will air on both the SEC Network + as well as on WatchESPN.com.

Texas Tech 7, Abilene Christian 6
ABILENE, Texas -- For the second time in the last eight days, the ACU Wildcats took one of the country's best teams right down to the wire. But again the Wildcats were denied their first win over a top-25 program, this time by the 19th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Abilene, Texas -- Last Monday night at Crutcher Scott Field, the Wildcats led No. 2 TCU for much of the game before falling, 4-3, to the Horned Frogs.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 8-25 overall, while Texas Tech improves to 23-14. The road doesn't get any easier for the Wildcats who will leave late Wednesday morning to travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M, the top-ranked team in the country. The game will mark the first time the Wildcats will have faced the No. 1-ranked NCAA Division I team in the country.

ACU head coach Britt Bonneau's troops have played soundly in three matchups this season against two of the best teams in Texas (TCU and Texas Tech), having been outscored 17-14 in three one-run losses. Now the Wildcats get to test themselves against the best team in the state and the country in the Aggies as they continue their effort to pick up a signature win over an in-state team for a program in its second year of transition to NCAA Division I affiliation.

The Wildcats certainly had their chances to make that happen Tuesday night against the Red Raiders. Each team scored two runs in the second and third innings before scored two more in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. The big blow in the inning came off the bat of Tanner Gardner, whose solo home run banged off the scoreboard in right field to give Tech a 5-4 lead.

ACU answered with a run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Taylor Waters to make it 6-5, but neither team could score in the seventh or eighth innings. The Wildcats had a great opportunity in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn't get the tying run across the plate, despite putting the first two batters of the inning on base.

With two on and no outs, Kyle Carroll tried to bunt, but his attempt came on a pitch up and in and it was popped up to the third baseman (Gardner), who made the catch for the first out. He then wheeled and threw back to the shortstop covering the bag at second to double off pinch-runner Garrett Hale for a double play. Aaron Draper then grounded out to end the inning and the Wildcat threat.

Tech strung together three straight singles in the top of the ninth to score what proved to be the winning run when Gardner singled home Hunter Hargrove to give the Red Raiders a 7-5 lead.
