Stephen F. Austin 6, Sam Houston State 1
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Stephen F. Austin made quick work of rival Sam Houston State, downing the Bearkats 6-1 at the McAdams Center Saturday morning. SFA clinches no worse than the number two seed at next weekend's Southland Conference Championship, improving to 15-6 on the year and 9-1 in SLC play.

SFA opened up the day with a pair of convincing wins in doubles play, beginning with an 8-1 victory by Vivienne Kulicke and Valeria Terentyeva in the No. 3 spot. Julia Lorca and Denise Maxl then claimed an 8-4 decision at the No. 2 slot, clinching the doubles point and leaving Malena Gordo and Dhanielly Quevedo's match unfinished.

The Ladyjacks then continued their solid play in the singles matches, taking five of the six bouts to earn the 6-1 decision. Quevedo notched the first win at the No. 4 spot, taking a 6-0, 6-1 victory, followed by a 6-3, 6-1 win by No. 2 Kulicke and a 6-3, 6-2 victory by Gordo in the No. 1 spot to secure the victory.

Terentyeva was also a victor in the No. 5 position, earning a 6-2, 7-5 decision, with Maxl earning the win at the No. 3 spot after taking the opening set 6-4, then having her Bearkat opponent retire with a 5-3 lead in the second.

With one match to play in the regular season, SFA remains tied with Nicholls for the top spot in the SLC at 9-1. A win by the Ladyjacks in the regular season finale against Lamar would clinch at least a share of the SLC title for SFA and the Ladyjacks would win it outright with a win and a Nicholls loss at home to Southeastern Louisiana. SFA can finish no worse than the number two seed as the Ladyjacks hold the tiebreaker over third-place Northwestern State.

The regular season comes down to one match Sunday morning as SFA heads to Beaumont to face Lamar. The Cardinals are 9-10 on the year and 3-6 in SLC play, sitting ninth in the SLC standings. First serve is set for 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

Abilene Christian 4, Central Arkansas 0
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Abilene Christian women's tennis shut out Central Arkansas 4-0 Saturday afternoon in a neutral-site match played at Burns Park. The location change was made because of the persistent threat of rain in the Bears' hometown of Conway.

The Wildcats (12-6, 7-4 Southland) won the doubles point in rapid fashion for the third-consecutive dual. Freshmen Lucile Pothier and Carli Knezevich first defeated Horsikyan and Strukelj, 8-3, for win No. 9 on the season, and then Brittney Reed and Kaysie Hermsdorf followed with a 8-5 triumph over Yao and Crawford at No. 1.

Reed and Hermsdorf finished their spring season together 16-2, which includes an 11-2 dual record at No. 1 and 7-1 mark vs. the Southland.

ACU also made quick work of the Bears in singles play as Erin Walker, Pothier and Nada Marjanovic all won in straight sets at the No. 2, 5 and 6 positions. Marjanovic finished her spring dual season an incredible 13-1, while Walker and Pothier each won a dozen contests.

The Wildcats return to action next week for the 115th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament where they'll compete in the Independent College division since they're ineligible to participate at the Southland Conference Champions.
