Brittney Morse, Mikayla Brown Take Southland Softball Weekly Honors

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore catcher Brittney Morse was selected Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week while Northwestern State freshman right-hander Mikayla Brown was tabbed pitcher of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hitter of the Week – Brittney Morse, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Morse led A&M-Corpus Christi to its fifth Southland series victory of the season with a pair of wins over Abilene Christian this weekend. The Richmond, Texas (George Ranch H.S.), powered the Islanders’ bats the whole week with a .583 batting average as she went 7-for-12 with three doubles and 11 RBI in the three-game series at ACU and the lone game at Texas State Wednesday. The sophomore hit three home runs on the week with two of those being grand slams against the Wildcats, recording 19 total bases in the four games. Morse registered a .643 on-base percentage while slugging an impressive 1.583 for the week.

Pitcher of the Week – Mikayla Brown, Northwestern State
Brown pushed her streak to 30 innings of not allowing an earned run before Stephen F. Austin captured one in the seventh inning of game one of the three-game Southland series this weekend. The Deville, La. (Buckeye H.S.), native stifled the Ladyjacks’ hitters, striking out a combined nine hitters in two complete games of work. The freshman gave up only 10 hits in the 14 innings pitched, while holding a 1.00 ERA and keeping SFA to a 0.208 batting average. This is the second consecutive week in which Brown as earned Southland pitcher of the week honors.
