Ockenden, Schweikert Named Cross Country Athletes of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Lamar senior Verity Ockenden was named Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week while Central Arkansas freshman Markus Schweikert was named Men’s Cross Country Athletes of the week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Tuesday.
Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Markus Schweikert, UCA
Schweikert represented Central Arkansas and Southland well at the Brook Memphis Twilight race hosted by Christian Brothers on Saturday. The Frankfurt, Germany, native placed 10th overall leading the Bears to a second-place team finish. Schweikert ran the four-mile course in a time of 20:29.48. Competing in the Brook Memphis Twilight was a total of 26 teams and 258 runners.

Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Verity Ockenden, Lamar
Ockenden guided the Lady Cardinals to a second-place finish at the Texas A&M Opener in College Station, Texas, on Friday. The Shaftesbury, England, native was the top Southland runner, finishing the 4.1K course with a personal best of 13:57.6.Ockenden came in 2nd overall out of 32 total runners and three different teams.
