Islanders’ Thomas Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior forward Rashawn Thomas has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
 
Thomas averaged 20 points and 9.5 rebounds to help the Islanders move to 2-0 to begin league play with wins over Central Arkansas and McNeese State. Against the Cowboys, the junior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Southeast H.S.), recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas continues to lead the league with 8.6 rebounds per game as he has his team out to the best start in program history with an 11-3 mark.
 
Honorable mention this week goes to Houston Baptist senior guard Anthony Odunsi, Central Arkansas sophomore guard Jordan Howard and Sam Houston State junior guard Dakarai Henderson.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
