Islanders’ Thomas Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior forward Rashawn Thomas has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Thomas averaged 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks to help the Islanders win a pair of conference games and improve to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in league play. In the 76-71 win over Nicholls, the junior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Southeast H.S.), recorded his league-leading fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 31 points and 13 rebounds. Against the Colonels, Thomas became the 10th Islander to score 1,000 career points and he is just one of six players in program history to have 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
