Sheehy Earns First Southland Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Honors of the Season

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian freshman Joshua Sheehy has been selected as Southland Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week in the first weekly award of the season, the league office announced Tuesday.

Wildcat freshman Sheehy could not have asked for a better start to the 2016 season and his collegiate career as he lands at the top line for the Wildcats. The Arlington, Texas (Grace Preparatory), native posted a 1-1 record as he followed a three-set loss to No. 12 Texas’ George Goldhoff with a straight-set win over Rice’s Adam Gustafsson.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
