Hackett, Jenkins Earn Women’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian junior Alexandria Hackett was named the Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Sam Houston State senior Ashley Jenkins earned the Southland Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Alexandria Hackett, Abilene Christian
Hackett picked up right where she left off during cross country season as the Southland champion. The Cranston, R.I. (West Cranston H.S.), native won two distance races in less than 24 hours at the Texas A&M Team Invitational. On Friday she won the 5K with a meet record of 16:31.74, which ranks her as the No. 3 performer all-time at ACU in this event. On Saturday she won the 3K against 29 other competitors, including Baylor, Texas and BYU, with a personal best of 9:37.71. Her 3K time is currently ranked 17th nationally by TFRRS.com and her 5K mark ranks 15th.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Ashley Jenkins, Sam Houston State
Jenkins earns her second consecutive Athlete of the Week honors by breaking her previous school record for the second time in as many weeks. The Dallas, Texas (Hillcrest H.S.), native ranks No. 2 nationally in the weight throw after her 69’9” throw at the Aggie Team Invitational in College Station. Jenkins also earned fourth in the shot put with a mark of 44’11”.
