Jefferson, King Earn Men’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State redshirt freshman Chris Jefferson was named the Southland Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Devin King earned Southland Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Chris Jefferson, Sam Houston State
Jefferson captured two meet records and a pair of first-place finishes in the 60 meters and 200 meters on Friday at the Aggie Team Invitational. The Jersey Village, Texas (Jersey Village H.S.), native boasted the fastest mark for a Southland athlete over the weekend in both events.
Honorable Mention: Dion Hardy, UIW; Andre Colebrook, Southeastern La.; Colby Mehem, Stephen F. Austin.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Devin King, Southeastern Louisiana
King broke the school record in the pole vault for the second straight week after clearing 17-09 at the Bayou Bengal Invitational. That mark is tied for fourth best in the country this season. The Kentwood, La. (Jewel Sumner H.S.), native had set the previous school mark of 17-05.5 at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational on Jan. 8.
