Vaughn and Walker Named Volleyball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State junior outside hitter Jordyn Vaughn and sophomore middle blocker Lauren Walker of Abilene Christian were named as this week’s Southland Conference Volleyball Players of the Week, presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Jordyn Vaughn, Sam Houston State
Vaughn continued her outstanding play this week, leading the Bearkats to a pair of wins over Nicholls and McNeese State. The Huntsville, Texas native averaged 5.00 kills per set for the week, hitting at a .244 clip and currently ranks third in the Southland with 3.45 kills per set. Vaughn posted a .375 hitting percentage in a sweep of Nicholls to start the week, scoring 15 kills with only three errors on 32 attempts and adding six digs. Two days later she flirted with a triple-double against McNeese State, leading the Kats to a 3-1 win over the Cowgirls. The junior finished with 20 kills in the four-set match while also finishing with 21 digs and eight blocks.

Defensive Player of the Week – Lauren Walker, Abilene Christian
Walker, the leading scorer for ACU this weekend with 26.5 points, was an all-around threat for the Wildcats. The sophomore out of Round Rock, Texas posted a .343 hitting percentage with 17 kills on 35 attempts, delivered one ace and was part of 14 blocks (three solo, 11 assists). Walker also notched five digs and three assists. Against Southeastern La., she hit .391 with 11 kills on 23 attempts and had two solo blocks to go along with four block assists and an ace. Two days earlier, Walker posted six kills, one solo block and seven block assists against New Orleans. Walker paced a defense that held the Lady Lions to an .084 hitting percentage and the Privateers to .099.
