Lamar’s Frenchwood Claims Southland Player of the Week Honors

FRISCO, Texas -- Lamar University guard Joey Frenchwood is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by
UniversalCoin.com. The Conference made the announcement Tuesday.
Frenchwood recorded consecutive double-doubles in leading the Cardinals to two victories.
The junior from Newark, Calif. scored 10 points to go along with 12 assists to fuel the 82-65 win over Liberty and give coach Tic Price his 200
th career win.
The 6-foot-1-inch Frenchwood followed up last Monday’s effort with 13 assists and 11 points in a 126-75 blowout over Arlington Baptist on Wednesday. Nine Cardinals scored in double figures in Wednesday’s contest.
Half of his points in the two games came at the free throw line as he knocked down 11 of 15 attempts at the charity stripe.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, and is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
All 13 Southland Conference men’s basketball programs are idle until Wednesday with three games scheduled in advance of conference play commencing Thursday with two intra-league games. Saturday’s schedule calls for six Southland matchups. In total, there are 12 games this week featuring SLC teams.
