New Orleans’ Erik Thomas Named Southland Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – University of New Orleans forward Erik Thomas is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by
UniversalCoin.com. The Conference made the announcement Monday afternoon.
Thomas averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two wins last week. The first victory came at home Tuesday against crosstown rival Tulane when the senior poured in 18 points in just 24 minutes to fuel the Privateers 74-59 win.
Thomas, a Wesley Chapel High School (Fla.) and Baton Rouge Community College product, concluded the week with a double-double – 17 points and 10 rebounds – in leading Privateers to a 70-54 win over Washington State in Pullman, Wash. The road victory is the first over a Pac-12 foe since 1998.
In the two contests, Thomas shot .600 from the field (12-of-20) and .786 from the free throw line (11-of-14).

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, and is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
