Taylor Ross Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – After two double-figure scoring outings, Stephen F. Austin senior guard Taylor Ross was named Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by
UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Monday. The Ladyjacks are currently second in the conference with a 5-2 record.
Ross had a huge week, leading SFA in points during both games. Ross shot a perfect game on Wednesday, shooting 100 percent at the line (1-1) and from the field (6-6) for 14 points against LSU-Shreveport. On Sunday afternoon, she had a season-high 26 points against UT-Arlington. Ross’s accuracy at the free-throw helped edge out the Ladyjacks in the final minutes after a grueling game that was tied up seven times.
Ross is averaging 15.0 points per game through seven games played. The versatile guard also ranks fifth in the Southland in assists per game (4.0). As a team, SFA ranks third in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
The Ladyjacks head to Ruston, La. to face Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 11:15 a.m.
Honorable mentions for this week’s award included Raquel Logan (Central Arkansas), Beatrice Attura (Northwestern State), Celia Garcia Paunero (UIW) and Baileigh O’Dell (Lamar).
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
