Northwestern State’s Woodley Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State junior guard Zeek Woodley  has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
 
Woodley continued his hot shooting this week with 25 points against league-leading Stephen F. Austin followed by 24 points against in-state rival McNeese State. The junior from Pelican, La. (All Saints H.S.), moved up to ninth nationally in scoring and sixth in free throw percentage after going 13-for-14 on the week from the charity stripe. Against the Lumberjacks, Woodley added four rebounds and two assists to his stat line while he had three rebounds, three assists and a steal in the 87-78 win over the Cowboys. He shot 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-for-9) from behind the arc and 92.9 percent from the free throw line for the week.
 
Honorable mention this week goes to Sam Houston State junior center Aurimas Majauskas, Stephen F. Austin senior guard/forward Thomas Walkup and Central Arkansas sophomore guard Mathieu Kamba.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
