HBU’s Odunsi Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Houston Baptist senior guard Anthony Odunsi has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Odunsi helped lead the Huskies to two vital conference wins over the week by averaging 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals. The senior from Sugar Land, Texas (Travis H.S.), had 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in HBU’s 79-78 win over Lamar. He followed that performance up with a 21-point, nine-rebound showing in a 73-71 win over Abilene Christian. It was 10th 20-plus scoring game of the season. He also went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 49 seconds against the Wildcats to help seal the win.
Honorable mention this week goes to Stephen F. Austin senior guard/forward Thomas Walkup, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior guard Hameed Ali and Southeastern Louisiana junior forward Jordan Capps.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
