FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas sophomore guard Jordan Howard has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.

Howard had one of the best weeks in program history, averaging 36.5 points while draining 12 3-pointers and going 15-for-16 from the free throw line. In UCA’s game against Northwestern State, the sophomore from Chandler, Ariz. (Perry H.S.), had a career-high 37 points. He followed that performance up with 36 points in the Bears’ 112-77 win over New Orleans.  On the week, Howard also averaged four assists and 2.5 rebounds.

Honorable mention this week goes to Stephen F. Austin senior guard/forward Thomas Walkup, Southeastern Louisiana junior forward Jordan Capps and UIW sophomore guard Jontrell Walker.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
