Demons Sweep Men’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State sophomore Amir James was named the Southland Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while fellow Northwestern State senior Aaron Williams earned Southland Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Amir James, Northwestern State
James posted two times at the Bobby Lane Invitational that rank in the national top 10. The 200-meter time, a personal best (20.78), stands sixth nationally and leads the Southland. The Missouri City, Texas (Dulles H.S.), native’s 100-meter mark is tied for 10th nationally, and is second in the conference to freshman teammate Micah Larkins (10.28). This is his second weekly award since the start of indoor track and field.
 
Honorable Mention: Jeffrey Moore, Sam Houston State; Rosen Daniel, Abilene Christian; Kerry Gleason, Stephen F. Austin.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Aaron Williams, Northwestern State
Williams had two first place finishes at the Bobby Lane Invitational. The Duson, La. (Acadiana H.S.), native’s first-place triple jump of 51-9.25 ranks second in the nation, while his winning mark in the long jump (25-1.25) moved him up to 14th nationally. Both marks lead the Southland.
 
Honorable Mention: Cameron Meyer, Stephen F. Austin; Kalvin Singletary, Sam Houston State; Clarence Robinson, Southeastern Louisiana.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
