Grigsby, Thomas Earn Women’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State sophomore Camry Grigsby was named the Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Northwestern State senior Por’sha Thomas earned the Southland Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Camry Grigsby, Sam Houston State
Grigsby broke a school record in the 800 meters at the Victor Lopez Classic, posting the Southland Conference’s top time while ranking 32nd nationally. The DeSoto, Texas (DeSoto H.S.), native also helped the Bearkats’ 4x400-meter relay squad to the top spot collegiately with the Southland Conference’s best time and 35th-best nationally in the event.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Por’sha Thomas, Northwestern State
The five-time Southland triple jump champion jumped into 6
th nationally with her performance at at the Bobby Lane Invitational. The Pearland, Texas (Glenda Dawson H.S.), native was the top collegiate finisher in her specialty with a mark that leads the league by 11 inches. Her triple jump mark of 41-10.75 earned second place at the meet.
