Kerley, King Earn Men’s Track and Field Weekly Awards

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin sophomore My’Lik Kerley was named the Southland Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Devin King earned Southland Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Wednesday.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – My’Lik Kerley, Stephen F. Austin
Kerley set a new personal with the fastest 400-meter time in the league this season at the Michael Johnson Invitational. The Taylor, Texas (Taylor H.S.) native split 46.40 seconds to claim third out of 41 competitors, finishing only behind athletes from Baylor and Texas Tech. His new personal best is also the 12th fastest time in the NCAA West Region in 2016. He also anchored SFA’s 4x400m relay to a time of 3:08.84. This is his second consecutive weekly award.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Devin King, Southeastern Louisiana
King remained undefeated in the pole vault during the outdoor season with his fourth-straight victory after clearing 18 feet, 1.75 inches. The Kentwood, La. (Jewel Sumner H.S.), native, who cleared 18 feet for the third time this season, passed on the next three heights before missing on an attempt at the facility record of 18-09.25.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
