In one of the more exciting events of the final day of the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday, SFA surged past TCU, Texas State and Kansas on the final leg of the 4x400 meter relay final to capture first place. Freshman D’Lance Sharp, junior Will Gibson, freshman Garrett Moore and sophomore anchor My’Lik Kerley teamed up to bump SFA to No. 7 in the nation in the event this season with their winning time of 3:06.17. The mark is the best in the Southland Conference by nearly six seconds.

Honorable Mention: Philipp Baar, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Iliass Aouani, Lamar; Josh Quiroga, Central Arkansas.

King cleared a school record (18-8.25) to capture the pole vault title at the Texas Relays. The Mark qualified him for the USATF Olympic Trials for this summer’s Olympic Games. The Kentwood, La. (Jewel Sumner H.S.) was perfect through his record-breaking height, clearing every mark on his first attempts. King broke the school record for the sixth time in 2016, eclipsing his latest mark of 18-1 set at the Tulane Twilight Invite on March 4. The vault ranks No. 1 in the nation this season by 1.75 inches and topped a field that included 13 of the top 16 and 15 of the top 21 vaults of the season. He was named the USTFCCCA Division I Men’s National Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Honorable Mention: Eric Moore, Central Arkansas; Aaron Williams, Northwestern State; Isiah Pittman, Stephen F. Austin.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
