LAKE CHARLES, La. – No. 5 seed Stephen F. Austin upset No. 2 seed Nicholls 1-0 in the Southland Conference Softball Tournament back draw Thursday night at the Cowgirl Diamond in Lake Charles, La. With the victory, the Ladyjacks advance to the tournament back-draw semifinals to play third-seeded Lamar.

Stephen F. Austin posted a run in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single by freshman designated player Faith Tally to bring in junior first baseman Brittany Lewis. It would be the only run either team would score in the game.

In the top of the seventh, with no outs and runners on first and second, Nicholls made one last effort to get on the board. A fly-out turned double play at home followed by a forced out at first ended the game.

The Ladyjacks tallied only two hits on the night while Nicholls totaled five. However, the Colonels missed on several opportunities leaving six on base.

SFA sophomore pitcher Callee Guffey had two strikeouts while pitching a complete game, improving her record to 13-5 on the season. Colonels freshman pitcher Megan Landry took the loss to make her 15-8 for the year.
