FRISCO, Texas – Houston Baptist senior setter Kayla Armer was named Southland Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week while junior libero Lexus Cain was named Defensive Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com to begin the 2016 season, the league announced Monday.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Kayla Armer, Houston Baptist
Senior setter Kayla Armer was named the Flo Hyman Collegiate Classic MVP, leading HBU to a 4-0 week, during which the Huskies dropped only one set, and claimed their second tournament title in as many weeks. Armer paced HBU to a .285 hitting percentage in the four matches, averaged 10.46 assists per set, hit .500 with 15 kills, only one error on 28 swings, and added four aces, six blocks and 26 digs (2.00/set). In Saturday’s 3-1 tournament-clinching win over San Jose State, Armer dished out 55 assists, while adding a pair of kills and nine digs. In Friday’s sweep of Houston, Armer had five kills (no errors), 20 assists, four digs and two blocks, following up a 32-assist, three-kill (no errors) two block performance earlier in the day in a sweep of ULM. In Tuesday’s sweep of Prairie View A&M, she had 29 assists, five kills (no errors), 10 digs and two aces. For the season, she is averaging 10.19 assists, 1.00 kill and 2.12 digs per set, as HBU has won five straight and seven of its last eight.

Defensive Player of the Week – Lexus Cain, Stephen F. Austin
For the second week in a row, junior Lexus Cain earned a spot on an all-tournament team after her performance at the Texas Tech Invitational. The Amarillo, Texas, product averaged 6.44 digs per set and in SFA’s four-set loss at Texas Tech she scooped up a career-best 41 of them. That was the third-most digs by a player in a single match in the history of Stephen F. Austin volleyball and the most by an NCAA Division I player in a four-set match this season. Her 5.84 digs per set leads the Southland Conference.
