Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sweeps Cross Country Athletes of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior Cesar Gonzalez and fellow Islander, sophomore Cynthia Quiroga, received Cross Country Athletes of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Tuesday.
Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Cesar Gonzalez, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Cesar Gonzalez led the Islanders for the first time this season, pacing a 1-2-3 finish for his team at the Islander Splash on Friday night in Corpus Christi. Gonzalez won by a margin of 56.1 seconds, with an 8K finishing time of 25:09.6. The Islanders have moved up to 8
th place in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region Poll, the highest of any Southland team.

Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Cynthia Quiroga, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Quiroga led the Islanders for the third straight week, winning the Islander Splash Friday evening in Corpus Christi, heading a top four finish for her team. The sophomore won by a margin of 33.8 seconds, with a 5K finishing time of 19:08.1.
Honorable Mention: Clarissa Smith, Southeastern Louisiana.
