2017 Southland Indoor Track & Field Week Two Recap
 
FRISCO, Texas – Following a trio of individual first-place finishes at Texas A&M’s Aggie Team Invitational in College Station, Sam Houston State’s Chris Jefferson and Tyler Adams were named the Southland Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Jefferson took first place in the 60-meter and 200-meter while Adams won the high jump event. Southland Conference Athletes of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Chris Jefferson, Sam Houston State
Bearkat sophomore Chris Jefferson set a new event record at the Aggie Team Invitational in the 200-meter with a first-place finishing time of 21.35. The time ranks 17th nationally and first in the Southland. The Jersey Village, Texas native also took the top spot in the 60-meter, running the second-fastest time in the Southland in the event this season at 6.79. Jefferson played a key role in Sam Houston capturing the team title at the event with 105.5 points.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Tyler Adams, Sam Houston State
Adams captured the top spot in the high jump at the Aggie Team Invitational, recording the best jump for a Southland athlete in the event with a winning height of 6 feet, 10 ¼ inches. The junior out of Buffalo, Texas ranks 45th nationally in the event, with the win marking the second straight year Adams has claimed the top spot at this event. With his help, the Bearkats claimed 105.5 points to take the top spot in their season opener.

Sam Houston State’s next indoor event is the Houston Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
