2017 Southland Indoor Track & Field Week Two Recap
 
FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State women earned both indoor track and field weekly awards following their performance at Texas A&M’s Aggie Team Invitational in College Station. Junior Camry Grigsby was named the Track Athlete of the Week and junior Kristine Hanks earned weekly honors for field. Southland Conference Athletes of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Camry Grigsby, Sam Houston State
Grigsby recorded a pair of first-place finishes at the Aggie Team Invitational, leading the Bearkats to a team title in their first meet of the season. The hometown Huntsville product took the top spot in the 800-meter (2:17.49) as well as anchoring the championship 4x400-meter relay squad (3:52.30). Both marks rank second in the Southland this season while helping the Bearkats to a first-place team result, backed by 125 points.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Kristine Hanks, Sam Houston State
Hanks set a meet record in a first-place shot put finish at the Aggie Team Invitational with a mark of 49 feet, ¼ inches. This distance ranks first in the Southland and 50th nationally. She also took ninth in the weight throw, capturing a personal best of 51 feet, 8 ¼ inches, which ranked third among league competitors over the weekend. With the help of Hanks, Sam Houston won the team title at the event, raking in 125 points.

The Bearkats next head to Houston for the Houston Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
