Sam Houston State Guard Dewey Takes Player of the Week Honors

FRISCO, Texas
- Sam Houston State University's John Dewey III is the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, presented by UniversalCoin.com. The Conference made the announcement Monday.

The sophomore from the Bronx, NY, averaged 16.4 points and 6.5 assists in two games that helped the Bearkats run their winning streak to six games.

Dewey Hit 60 percent of his shots from the floor and nailed six of nine tries from behind the arc. He hit four of six triples on his way to 14 points, eight assists with just one turnover on Thursday in a 22-point win over Lamar.

The playmaking guard followed that game with a 19-point effort in a double-digit win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, adding five assists and a pair of steals while hitting seven of his nine shots from the floor.

Dewey leads the Southland Conference in assists with 5.5 per game.
