Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Alexia Fortenberry, New Orleans
Fortenberry was the fastest qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles at the LSU Twilight meet and went on to win the finals with a clocking of 8:26. This was her best time of the season. It was the third consecutive victory for the Harvey, La. native as she also took first place at the Dunamis Indoor Classic in Frisco last week.
Honorable Mention: Sharrona Williams, Southeastern La.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Ashley Davis, Southeastern Louisiana
Davis threw 46-01.25 to finish third in the shot put at the LSU Twilight meet. Davis’ throw ranks fifth in the league in 2017.
All Southland teams will now set their sights on the 2017 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. this week.
