FRISCO, Texas – After a flurry of new personal records, Abilene Christian junior Josh Hunter and freshman Imani Nave of Stephen F. Austin were named the Southland Outdoor Athletes of the Week. Hunter moved into first place in conference rankings in the discus at the Wildcat Open while Nave set PRs in the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the Texas State Bobcat Classic. Men’s Athlete of the Week – Josh Hunter, Abilene Christian
Junior Josh Hunter climbed to the top of Southland Conference performance list after placing third in the discus last Thursday night at the inaugural Wildcat Open. The Abilene native recorded a lifetime best distance of 178-08.00 (54.47m) competing against 18 individuals. Hunter's previous best discus throw this season was 170-06.00 (51.96m), which he recorded in late March at ACU's Wes Kittley Invitational. He stands atop the Southland with the league's best discus throw of the spring, five inches ahead of second place. Hunter also recorded a second PR in the shot put, placing second with a 10th-ranked Southland toss of 53-01.00 (16.18m).

Women’s Athlete of the Week – Imani Nave, Stephen F. Austin
At Texas State’s Bobcat Classic, Nave set another personal record in the women’s 200m that boosted her to second in the conference. Nave shaved off half a second from her original PR to win the competition. In the 100m, Nave also cut over half a second for a new personal best, as well as a fourth-place finish in the race. She is now seventh in the league for her 100m time.

Abilene Christian competes today in its final regular season event, hosting the ACU Oliver Jackson Twilight in Abilene. Stephen F. Austin has concluded their regular season competition and both will next head to New Orleans for the
2017 Southland Outdoor Championships on May 12-14.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the athletes of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own student-athlete. To receive honorable mention, an athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors
