2017 Southland Cross Country Recap – Week Two
FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State junior Jordan Leon and Central Arkansas junior Taylor Dunn were named Southland Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Sam Houston State next heads to College Station for the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 23 while Central Arkansas will compete at the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. this Saturday.
Men’s Athlete of the Week: Jordan Leon, Sam Houston State – Jr. – Baltimore
Leon captured a second-place individual finish among 75 competitors at Rice’s Norry Hersey Invitational on Friday. He clocked a 19:53.52 time over the 6,250-meter course. Leon finished less than four seconds off the top spot in a field that included Houston, Rice, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist. The Bearkats finished third as a team behind only Rice and Houston.
Honorable Mention: Alex Hanson, Central Arkansas; Marek Spriestersbach, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Women’s Athlete of the Week: Taylor Dunn, Central Arkansas – Jr. – Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
Dunn took the individual title at the three-mile UCA Cross Country Challenge with a time of 17:17.5. She paced the Bears to a top team finish out of 11 competing schools at Beaverfork Lake in Conway.
Honorable Mention: Allyson Girard, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Hannah Tarant, Sam Houston State.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athletes is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
