Ladyjacks Take Volleyball’s Offensive, Defensive Player of the Week Awards

– Stephen F. Austin earned both of the Southland Conference Player of the Week awards as junior outside hitter Haley Coleman was named Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore middle blocker Shayla Eagleton claimed defensive honors.

The duo was part of a Ladyjack squad that went 5-0 on the week capped by lifting the Mississippi State Bulldog Invite championship. SFA picked up wins against ULM, South Florida, Grambling, Mississippi State and Tulane, giving up just two sets in the five matches. The Ladyjacks ride a Southland best seven-match winning streak heading into this week.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Haley Coleman – Stephen F. Austin – Junior – Outside Hitter – Rockwall, Texas
 
Haley Coleman racked up 49 kills in a perfect 5-0 week for Stephen F. Austin. At the Mississippi State Bulldog Invite, the junior outside hitter from Rockwall, Texas, hit .348 and averaged three kills per set. She turned in a pair of double-double performances and averaged 2.67 digs per set while also tacking on six aces. The Heath High School product was named Tournament MVP. Her 77 kill total is the most among Southland players.

Defensive Player of the Week: Shayla Eagleton – Stephen F. Austin – Sophomore – Middle Blocker – Richmond, Texas
 
Shayla Eagleton was a defensive threat at the net all week as the sophomore middle blocker tallied 20 total blocks, upping her team-leading blocks per set average to 1.12. The sophomore from Richmond, Texas, led a Ladyjack defense that gave up just two sets on the week in five matches, extending the team’s win streak to seven matches and a team tournament title. She single-handedly out-blocked Tulane in the team’s final match of the tournament, finishing with seven block assists and one solo block. Eagleton added 1.29 kills per set on the strength of a .329 attack percentage.
