Hoy, Adeyemi-Berglund and Fonseca Named Southland Football Players of the Week
FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University’s Jordan Hoy has been announced as the Southland Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Southeastern Louisiana’s Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund has claimed the Defensive Player of the Week award. Nicholls place-kicker Lorran Fonseca wrapped up the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week honor. The league made the announcements Monday morning. All weekly awards are presented by

Hoy grabbed his second consecutive weekly award after leading the Cardinals to an impressive 38-24 victory over a No. 19 Central Arkansas. Adeyemi-Berglund charged the Lion defense to limit a No. 11/12 ranked McNeese squad to just six points in a 23-6 win Saturday evening. Fonseca accounted for 11 of Nicholls’ 41 points in a dominant 41-20 performance over Houston Baptist.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jordan Hoy, Lamar– Jr. – Quarterback – Rockwall, Texas
The junior quarterback guided an offense that recorded 512 yards of offense as LU defeated 19th-ranked Central Arkansas for the first time in program history. Just one week after rushing for a career-high 225 yards, Hoy flipped the script on UCA and completed 15 passes for a career-high 346 yards and four touchdowns. Hoy was responsible for five touchdowns Saturday (one rushing) as the Cardinals knocked off their second ranked opponent in the past three weeks. LU also pushed its win streak to four-straight games.

Defensive Player of the Week: Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund, Southeastern Louisiana – Jr. – Linebacker – Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Adeyemi-Berglund paced a Lion defensive effort that held No. 11/12 McNeese to 187 total yards in a 23-6 victory. The junior linebacker was responsible for two of SLU’s five sacks and led the Lions with eight tackles, four of which were for a loss. The yardage total was the fewest allowed by Southeastern since 2014. In his first season as a starter, Adeyemi-Berglund has a team-high six sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. This is his first weekly award.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Lorran Fonseca, Nicholls – Sr. – Kicker – Hercules, Calif.
Fonseca broke another program record for the Colonels, booting a 56-yard field goal in the opening quarter on the road against Houston Baptist. The senior kicker was perfect in his duties for the second straight week, adding a 35-yarder while converting all five extra points. In just his second season, Fonseca now holds the school records for field goals made in a season (19), in a game (5), and longest field goal. The previous record for longest field goal conversion was 55-yards, set in 1999 by Kyle Leisher. Fonseca’s honor marks the second weekly accolade of the season.
