COLLEGE STATION, Texas
– Seventy-seven men’s athletes and 63 women’s athletes will represent the Southland Conference at the 2018 NCAA Division I Cross Country South Central Regional Championships on Friday morning at Texas A&M’s Dale Watts ’71 Cross Country Course.

The women's 6K race begins at 9:15 a.m. CT while the men's 10K starts at 10:15 a.m. The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, held Nov. 17 in Madison, Wis.

Incarnate Word, one of 12 Southland men’s teams who will compete at the regional race, leads the way with 11 entries. Central Arkansas, the 2018 Southland Conference champion, entered nine individuals, followed by five institutions with seven racers.

Two-time defending Southland Conference individual champion Jamie Crowe headlines Lamar’s entry card, along with teammate Jordan Rowe, the league’s Newcomer of the Year. The duo finished first and second with times of 25:59.1 and 26:17.5, respectively, at last month’s conference championship. Crowe is the top returning athlete from last year’s regional championship, finishing 15th with a time of 30:30.5.

On the women’s side, UIW also paces the league with 11 student-athletes set to compete, while McNeese sends nine runners to College Station. Southland Conference champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi joins Lamar, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin with seven entries.

Just the second individual champion from A&M-Corpus Christi, Allyson Girard looks to carry momentum from her victorious time of 22:15.6 at the conference championship. New Orleans’ international-transfer Arina Kleshchukova, the league’s Newcomer of the Year, is the Privateers’ lone entry. McNeese’s Gladys Jerotich is the top returning female after finishing 33rd with a time of 20:58.1 in 2017.
