FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin guard/forward Kevon Harris is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank.

In front of a sold-out crowd at the William R. Johnson Coliseum, Harris poured in 18 points, four rebounds and a block and a steal in a 79-69 loss to Alabama. Harris and the Lumberjacks open league play with a rematch of the 2018 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament Championship against Southeastern Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – Kevon Harris, Stephen F. Austin – Jr. – Ellenwood, Ga.

Harris scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half to chip away at a 12-point deficit and give Stephen F. Austin a fighting shot in their final non-conference contest, but his efforts were not enough to overcome the Crimson Tide.

He converted seven of his 12 attempts from the field to boost his season shooting percentage to a team-best 49.2 percent. This marks Harris’ second weekly honor of the 2018-19 season.

Honorable Mention: Ian DuBose, Houston Baptist; Sha’Markus Kennedy, McNeese

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
