Martinez, Bizzell Claim Final Weekly Women's Indoor Track & Field Awards of the Season
FRISCO, Texas – Incarnate Word’s Danielle Martinez and Stephen F. Austin’s Kaylee Bizzell are the Southland Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. All Southland Athletes of the Week are presented by
MidSouth Bank.
Martinez claimed the final weekly track honor of the indoor season, competing for the Cardinals at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight over the weekend. The junior tabbed a season-best time in the 3,000-meter race with a 10:32.95 clip.
Bizzell captured the season’s final weekly field award after a first-place finish in the pole vault for the Ladyjacks also at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight.
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week – Danielle Martinez, Incarnate Word – Jr. – New Braunfels, Texas
Martinez ran a season-best 10:32.95 at the Aggie Twilight as she looked to return to form before the Southland Conference Championships taking place in Birmingham, Ala. next Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 24-25). Her performance in the 3,000-meter event stands as the second-fastest time by any UIW runner this season.

Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Kaylee Bizzell, Stephen F. Austin – Jr. – Golden, Texas
The junior from Golden, Texas took first-place overall in the pole vault at the Aggie Twilight meet with a mark of 13-8.5. Her finish stands as the second-best pole vault in the Southland Conference this season and currently ranks 25th in the nation.
Honorable Mention: Deja Phillips, Lamar; Imani Jacquet, Houston Baptist.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
